SRHR/Key Population Project

Unique Aid Foundation for People Living with AIDS is currently implementing a 3-year project (October, 2017- October, 2020) on Advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights of Women and Adolescent Girls Living with HIV in their diversities.    The project is supported by ICW West Africa with funding from Commonwealth Foundation, London.  The project is currently being implemented in four states in Nigeria (Nasarawa, Abuja, Ondo and Lagos States) and is targeting 1500 adolescent girls and young women living with HIV for SRHR services.

Global Fund Supported HBC Project

Between  2013 and 2015, Unique Aid Foundation for People Living with AIDS (UAF) signed a grant of NGN4,671,000.00 with Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN) to implement  Objective 3 of the Nigeria Global Fund R9 grant "To scale up gender sensitive care and support for People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) and Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) with focus on basic care and support for chronically ill, home based care, adherence and psycho-social  services.  Through this project, a total of 400 PLHIV were reached with various services.

Stigma Reduction & Respect for Confidentiality

In 2006,  ActionAid International Nigeria (AAIN) and Society for Family Health (SFH)  contracted Unique Aid Foundation for People Living with AIDS (UAF) to implement a  stigma reduction grant of NGN1,715,100.00 to support the project on “Promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health and HIV Reduction in Nigeria” (PRSHH) focusing on mobilizing, sensitizing and influencing religious, traditional, policy makers and other institutions to reduce stigma and discrimination against PLHIV and  mitigating the impact of AIDS among PLWHIV.  PSRHH is a 7-year programme in support of the national HIV response which is supported by the Nigerian Government, DFID and USAID. Since then Stigma reduction activities have been part of routine activities of UAF.

SRHR/Key Population Project

Between July, 2016 and July, 2017, Unique Aid Foundation for People Living with AIDS co-implemented a 1-year project on advancing sexual reproductive health and rights of women living with HIV in Nigeria, focusing on improving access to family planning and safe abortion in four states in Nigeria.  The project was supported by ICW West Africa with funding from Amplifychange.  The main objective of the project was to influence decision makers to provide non-discriminatory and non-coercive comprehensive SRHR services including access to safe abortion services for women living with HIV in project states.  The project was renewed in March, 2018 for one-year term (2018 – 2019).

Nigeria MARKETS OVC Project

In 2009, Unique Aid Foundation for People Living with AIDS (UAF) in partnership with SAII Associates Ltd/Gte (an associate company of Chemonics International Inc) implemented Objective 2 Component of Family Nutritional Support Program (FNSP) of Nigeria USAID MARKETS to address the longer term household nutrition and income generating needs of HIV affected households  through the provision of Business Skills Training and Promotion of home gardening as an income generating activities for 120 OVC caregivers under a USAID funded project.

Treatment Literacy & Access Campaign

In 2006, Unique Aid Foundation for People Living with AIDS (UAF) secured two grants in support of HIV Treatment Literacy and access campaign from Commonwealth Foundation (2006) and Collaborative Fund for HIV Treatment Preparedness (The Tide Foundation) (2006) respectively.  The support from these organizations provided the initial stop-gap measures in capacity building of people living with HIV to better understand HIV treatment including reasons why PLHIV must adhere strictly to their medications and demand for their fundamental rights.  Since then, adherence and psychosocial support, treatment literacy and access campaign have   been part of routine activities of UAF.

Key Population Project

Currently, Unique Aid Foundation for People Living with AIDS is providing a range of services to key populations living with HIV including the provision of treated mosquito nets, condoms, lubricants, psychosocial support, referral and linkage to HIV treatment.  In 2017/2018, Unique Aid Foundation for People Living with AIDS provided technical support to Total Health Empowerment and Development Initiative (THEDI) in the implementation of their key population activities funded by International HIV/AIDS Alliance under the Rapid Response Grant.  Unique Aid Foundation has been part of different efforts aimed at increasing access of key populations to healthcare services including the Legal Environment Assessment conducted in Nigeria.

ChristianAid Supported OVC Project

In 2007, Unique Aid Foundation for People Living with AIDS (UAF) received a 3-year grant of $90,000 (2008-2010) from ChristianAid Nigeria (CA) under the Community Care in Nigeria (CCN Project) to implement OVC project in four communities in Abuja, FCT.  The program was funded under the cooperative agreement between Christian Aid and the Presidents Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) APS-620-06-002 with the goal to improve the quality of lives of Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC), People Living with HIV (PLHIV) and community women (OVC Caregivers) in 4 communities in Abuja, Nigeria.

FHI Supported OVC Project

In 2005, Unique Aid Foundation for People Living with AIDS (UAF) received a 2-year grant of $57,000.00 (2005-2007) from Family Health International (FHI) Global HIV/AIDS Initiative (GHAIN) to strengthen 120 families and 6 communities to respond to the challenges of Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC), in six communities in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.
