FEATURES

Unique Aid Foundation for People Living with AIDS (UAF) is a non-governmental membership organization formed by and for people living with HIV in their diversities.  UAF was established in June 2000, but legally registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to operate as a non-governmental entity in Nigeria on 24th May, 2006 with Registration Number CAC/IT/20973.  We exist to give visibility to the issues and challenges faced by key and vulnerable populations living with HIV and to advocate for changes that improve our lives.  We do this through research and documentation, human rights advocacy, anti-HIV Discrimination campaign, community development works, promotion of access to sexual and reproductive health, Treatment Literacy and Access Campaign and among others.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

"This is an extremely important side event. It’s all about ending the AIDS epidemic and working on a very important group – adolescents. If we neglect this age group, we will not be able to achieve our objective of ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030. I congratulate you for working not only on this issue, but also on the elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV. This will be decisive to ending AIDS."

— MARGARET CHAN, DIRECTOR GENERAL OF THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION

Unique Aid Foundation says no to all barriers to effective HIV responses, including stigma and discrimination, inequality and violence against women and girls, denial of sexual and reproductive health and rights, misuse of criminal law and punitive approaches and mandatory testing for HIV. These challenges particularly affect people living with HIV and key populations.  Let’s work now to overcome legal, human rights and gender-related barriers to health services, while affirming the dignity of people living with HIV, or vulnerable to HIV using a rights-based approach.

Unique Aid Foundation for People Living with AIDS (UAF) is affiliated to Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN), African Palliative Care Association (APCA), Network of African People Living with HIV (NAP+), International Alliance of Patients Organization (IAPO), and International Community of Women Living with HIV (ICW West Africa) among others
